Interview with Sonja in summer 2025

Sonja, this season has been anything but easy for you. What happened and how did you deal with it?

This season was marked by a major setback for me. During my comeback race in Schladming, which I had worked so hard towards, I tore my cruciate ligament. After months of preparation, suddenly finding myself back at square one was not easy. It was an enormous challenge to process, especially mentally.

How did you fight your way back?

The decision to really take my time with rehab wasn't easy, but it was necessary. I learned to be patient with myself, to accept setbacks and still stick to my goals. Step by step, I fought my way back – physically and mentally.

Were there any bright spots during this difficult time?

Definitely. Even though I couldn't compete in any races this season, it was perhaps one of the most important seasons ever for my personal development. I've grown, learned a lot about myself, and my dream lives on.

How do you feel about the coming season?

In the coming season, I will be focusing all my attention on my big goal: the Olympic Games. I am ready to attack again, stronger, more aware and more determined than ever.

What would you like to say to the people around you who have supported you?

A big thank you to the Arlberg Ski Club, my coaches, my family and everyone who stood by me during this difficult phase.
Your support gave me strength.
