Interview with Magdalena in summer 2025
How was your season?
Thanks to my permanent place in the Super-G, I was very privileged this season and was able to tick off a few ‘firsts’. This allowed me to get to know some new courses and gain valuable experience.
What was new or different this season?
I had often heard that experience plays a big role in speed skiing. But I really got to experience what that means over the course of the season: the difference between the European Cup and the World Cup is really noticeable.
Which slope was the biggest challenge for you?
Certain slopes, like Beaver Creek, which was new to the women's calendar, were really challenging for all of us. But I enjoyed taking on the challenges and I'm proud that I managed most of them well.
How did your season start in Beaver Creek?
I was able to score my first World Cup points in the Super-G, finishing 23rd in front of a group of locals, including SCA kids who were on an exchange programme in Colorado. It was a really great feeling to be able to score points in the speed events after my only World Cup points so far in 2020 were in the slalom in Levi.
What are you particularly proud of?
Towards the end of the season, I finished in the top 20 in the downhill in Kvitfjell and celebrated my first European Cup victory in Kitzbühel. It was a special honour to race on the Streif as a woman for the first time in 62 years and to celebrate a victory there. I won't forget that in a hurry.
How did you finish your season this year?
I finished the World Cup season in La Thuile just as I started it, in 23rd place, and overall I managed to finish in the top 30 six times.
Were there any highlights outside of the races?
I have particularly fond memories of individual giant slalom training sessions in the Flexenarena. It's always nice to train at home, because these days are now very rare and I enjoy them all the more! Thank you very much for always allowing us to drop by at short notice to take advantage of the great conditions. I think it's an ideal slope for picking up speed, getting a good feel for things and building confidence.
After the season, you were in St. Christoph for the final course of the state ski instructor training programme, right?
I started the training two years ago and completed parts of the course after each racing season. I still have a few minor details to submit for the certificate to be awarded, but the skiing part is complete and I am delighted to have learned so much. I am convinced that both the skiing diversity of the training and the expanded understanding of skiing will benefit me. I was also really happy to do the course with 7 (!) other SCA members! I think that's a remarkable number and testifies to a high level of enthusiasm and passion for skiing, which we hope to pass on to future generations.
