Wiedereröffnungsfeier der SCA-Hütte im Moostal

n Friday 24 July 2026, the newly renovated SCA hut in Moostal was officially reopened in the presence of numerous members and guests. From 1.00 pm onwards, a shuttle bus took visitors to the hut, where they were able to catch their first glimpse of the extensively refurbished building in glorious summer weather.

The new hut warden, David, welcomed the guests with guided tours of the hut and presented the numerous improvements. In addition to a new storage room, the entrance area and forecourt have been redesigned, and a modern washroom with a shower has been built. The two dormitories have also been fitted with new floors and mattresses, whilst the cosy lounge has been fitted with a new wooden floor.

Following the arrival of Father Adrian from Lech, SCA President Josef Chodakowsky opened the official ceremony. In his speech, he recalled the long history of the SCA hut. Just a few years after the founding of the Ski-Club Arlberg in 1901, the first club hut was built in the Moostal valley. Following its destruction by an avalanche in 1990, the current hut was built and officially opened in 1993. The recently completed refurbishment had become necessary after rock pressure had damaged the west side of the building. Thanks to extensive renovation work, the hut now shines in new splendour and remains an important meeting place for generations of SCA members.

The President expressed special thanks to the many volunteers, whose dedication went far beyond what could be taken for granted. As a token of appreciation, each volunteer received a painting of the SCA hut by Peppi Spiss. The new hut warden, David, was also presented with a replica of a historic painting by Peppi Spiss featuring the founding motto of the Ski-Club Arlberg, as well as a map of the local peaks.

A particularly moving moment came when a bottle of wine was opened – a gift given to Josef Chodakowsky on his 60th birthday by Vice-President Stefan Jochum and ‘Mone’ Tomelitsch. Mone had passed away at the end of June.

Following the ceremonial blessing of the hut by Father Adrian, the guests spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing over food and drink. Amid glorious sunshine, a wonderful atmosphere and magnificent views of the mountains, the reopening was celebrated in style. The extensively renovated SCA hut is now ready to serve for many more years as a place of gathering, community and living tradition within the Ski Club Arlberg.
