125th general assembly

Lech, 13 September 2025 – Last Saturday, the Arlberg Ski Club invited guests to its 125th General Assembly at Lechwelten. Around 200 members and guests accepted the invitation and enjoyed a special evening celebrating the club's 125th anniversary.

A festive start
After an aperitif together, President Josef Chodakowsky officially opened the meeting and confirmed that a quorum was present. A minute's silence was held to remember members who had passed away in the past year.

125 years of SCA – past, present and future
One of the highlights right at the start was the premiere of the new SCA image film, which impressively showcased the history and values of the club. In the subsequent discussion, which was once again skilfully moderated by Servus TV presenter Judith Nagiller, President Josef Chodakowsky, Vice-President Stefan Jochum and the chairmen of the St. Anton and Lech branches,
Peter Mall and Peter Scrivener, discussed the development of the association and its future. It was emphasised that the SCA draws on 125 years of tradition, but at the same time is actively shaping the future – always with the aim of introducing children and young people to skiing.

Formal resolutions and new elections
The formal part of the General Assembly agenda included amendments to the Articles of Association and a moderate increase in membership fees. In addition, the financial report was presented and the Executive Board was elected in the new elections.

Focus on athletes
The second panel discussion focused on sport. Coaches and athletes reported on their work and experiences. SCA-ÖSV alpine athlete Nina Ortlieb and young SCA-ÖSV ski mountaineer Silvano Wolf provided exciting insights into their sporting careers, their connection to the SCA and their plans for the future. ÖSV coach Meini Tatschl and the two SCA head coaches Daniel Huber and Andreas Tatschl described their work with young talent.

The Ski Club Arlberg looks after over 200 children every year in regular training sessions in a wide variety of groups and disciplines. The range of activities now extends far beyond alpine ski racing and also includes freeriding, freestyle, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. In addition to racing in all disciplines, the SCA team attaches particular importance to popular sports and to awakening enthusiasm for snow sports and love for their homeland in all local children.

Honours and special awards
Another highlight was the honouring of numerous members for their long-standing loyalty and service to the association. Representing many names, the special achievements of those honoured were highlighted and acknowledged with loud applause. A special honour, the SCA Diamond Sponsor, was awarded to Wilma Himmelfreundpointner from St. Anton am Arlberg for her many years of service on the SCA board and to Michael Manhart from Lech for his tremendous support of the SCA in all matters over many decades.

A look into the future of skiing
The presentation by ski futurologist Günter Aigner provided exciting impetus. Under the title ‘Four questions about the future of skiing until 2050 – and reasons for optimism’, he gave an interesting outlook and put the members in a positive mood for the coming decades.

A successful conclusion
At the end of the event, President Josef Chodakowsky and Vice-President Stefan Jochum thanked all the helpers, trainers, sponsors and supporters for their commitment. The evening then drew to a close with music, a raffle and convivial get-together – entirely in keeping with the motto: ‘Enchanted by nature, inspired by sport ...’
